BHS Middle School Device Usage Guidelines 2026-2027

As we begin the new school year, we want to update you on a new Michigan state law that restricts the use of personal electronic devices (such as cell phones, smartwatches, and earbuds) in public schools during the school day. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our staff, students, and community over the past several years, North Hills Middle School is already well ahead of the curve. Our culture of prioritizing engaged, distraction-free learning spaces means that this shift is not new to our building. However, with this official state mandate now in effect, there is an increased expectation of full compliance across all grade levels.

As always, we wish to maintain an educational environment with clear expectations around responsible electronic device usage that is devoid of unnecessary distractions, and we see the middle years as foundational for the development of lifelong habits.
