Welcome to North Hills!
It is with great honor and excitement that I extend a warm welcome to North Hills Middle School this fall as your principal. Having been a part of the Bloomfield Hills Schools community for several decades, most notably as the principal of East Hills Middle School, I am eager to continue serving this remarkable district.
Education has always been my passion, and I take immense joy in forging meaningful connections with students. As we embark on this new academic journey together, my utmost priority is to celebrate the successes of our students and pave the way for each one to achieve their personal and educational aspirations.
At North Hills Middle School, we are committed to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and empowered to thrive. Through collaboration and dedication, we aim to create pathways that enable our students to explore their full potential and embrace a lifelong love for learning.
I encourage each student to dream big, set ambitious goals, and engage wholeheartedly in their educational pursuits. Together, we will shape a community that not only excels academically but also values character development and compassionate citizenship.
I am thrilled to be a part of this vibrant school community and eagerly anticipate the wonderful achievements and discoveries that await us this academic year.

Tamarcus Southward
Associate Principal
I'm excited to welcome both returning and new families to North Hills Middle School. It is truly a pleasure to have such an amazing community to partner with each year.
As I continuously celebrate two decades of experience in working with students and families in education, I remain appreciative. Prior to my position as Associate Principal at North Hills, I served the role of school counselor and a proud parent of four children who have either graduated, or still attend Bloomfield Hills Schools.
My enthusiastic approach to connecting with students derives from a deep commitment to supporting students in achieving academic and career readiness. At North Hills, we are committed to making sure that every student feels valued and known at the start and end of each school day.
I stand by the belief that maintaining open communication and being actively involved are the prerequisites for fostering student growth. I encourage students to lead with civility and learn with compassion. The home-school community connection is vital at this stage in your child’s journey to maximize their full potential; therefore, do not hesitate to call, email or schedule an appointment if you ever have any questions.
